Privacy Policy - Plotfy

Plotfy is built for writers who value their craft and their privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and password (encrypted). When you write, your story content, chapters, characters, and notes are stored securely so you can access them from anywhere. We also collect basic usage data — session length, word counts, feature usage — to help us improve Plotfy. We do not sell your data. Ever.

Your writing is yours

Everything you write in Plotfy belongs to you. We do not use your story content to train AI models. We do not read your manuscripts. Your words are stored solely to power your writing experience and are never shared with third parties.

AI and your content

Plotfy uses Anthropic's Claude API to power features like Whisperline, Story Compass, and Character Builder. When these features are triggered, relevant portions of your manuscript are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic's privacy policy governs how they handle this data. We send only what's necessary and never store raw API responses beyond your session.

Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details. Stripe's privacy policy governs payment data. We store only your subscription status and billing period so we know your account is active.

Bot protection

We use Cloudflare Turnstile to keep bots and automated abuse off our registration, login, and password reset forms. Turnstile runs quietly in your browser and does not ask you to solve puzzles or click images. It evaluates a small set of technical signals — things like your browser's TLS fingerprint and IP address — to confirm you're a real visitor. Cloudflare processes this data as described in the Turnstile Privacy Addendum . We do not receive or store the underlying signals ourselves — only a pass/fail result.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences (like your chosen theme). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking.

Data retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed within 30 days. Stories moved to trash are held for 30 days before permanent deletion, giving you time to recover them.

Your rights

You can export your writing at any time as .docx or .txt. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing hello@plotfy.com. We will confirm deletion within 7 business days.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of Plotfy after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
